Here's to the band that never was, but was the best we ever knew

Stronger Than during their last ever live performance at the Hidden Cellar
on the 30th of January 2009. They were always entertaining, often fun and sometimes just plain awe-inspiring. What a bummer that they couldn't have stuck it out,
they really had something going towards the end of it.
Taken with my Nikon Fm, probably at f2.8, 1/30th of a second, no flash, no post processing on Fuji Superia 400.

(p.s. If you get the joke with the post-title, mail me for your awesome secret prize!)

Fault & Folly

I'm trying to upload more of my graphic design work at the moment.
So here is a poster I made/designed last year as a college project. It was for a fictious exhibition by an fictious artist. I made it all with cut out paper and just added in the finer details on illustrator afterwards

I smell like a burnt out field

Go read the news if you want to know why

Sore Arse Blues

Yes, yes, yes. I take long. Went and picked some pictures up this morning.
More stupid light leaks. I think the seals have gone to hell.

So here are some photos from the indaba. I was dumb enough to only take a film camera along.
I sat on a chair for three days, met some cool, interesting people, got a sore bum, ate tasty wraps and had an all round good time. Sorry if i death-stared anyone, that is just my zoning-out expression. Thanks to my friend Senyol for letting me use his jigsaw to do my cut-outs with.
So yeah. Some more things soon i promise.

Therefore I am Lowlife

My good friend Thomas makes amazing tee's. This in addition to taking amazing photos, amazing design stuff, riding waves pretty nicely and like I've said before, being an all round nice guy. Therefore I am. I hope to maybe contribute some drawings and design stuff for the next run of tees. Im going to be joining him in this! Im excited.
Here is a picture from a shoot we did this weekend. Well, tom took the photos, I mostly just lurked
Anyway, Im excited. The girl is Robyn, the lurker, it is I

Do it for darkness

paths

From my Agfa Click 2. I ran a roll of 35mm film through it. The shop where i had it scanned obviously cropped these for me, so i can't show the full frame shots (yet!) but anyway. Im quite pleased with how these came out. This one is taken from my bedroom

Two kids walking home one afternoon in the Bo-Kaap. I was sitting in my car, about to leave when i took this one. The colours aren't half bad. Im quite keen to see how it would like with the full frame

Strange picture, im not sure exactly what is going on? I like it though, feels very very dreamy. All of these pictures have a very dreamlike something about them. I like that

Tuesday Name Drop #1 Bruce Mackay

So I decided to start name dropping some friends of mine.
You know, as one does. So I'll start off with my friend BruceYou know, as one does. So I'll start off with my friend Bruce Mackay.
We grew up in the same time. He is a few years older than me. My earliest memories of him including him swearing in primary school and wrecking my parent's back garden with burnt-out fireworks. An all round nice sort of a guy.
Then our paths split and we bumped into each other at punk/hc shows a few years later. Then we went to college together. Then he graduated.
He is a pretty damn hot-on-fire-talented type of a guy when it comes to visual stuff, especially illustration. He also played in the now-defunct, disgustingly cute, but amazing band, This Quilt.
Check him out, he is unemployed, starving and desparate!
Mike
p.s I took the photo of him on my Olympus Trip 35, nifty innit?

A matter of Weather

An infographic I made last year, exploring the links between the weather and my moods over a week. I used actual weather data and took factors such as temperature, day of the week, wind, precipitation, etc into consideration with the affected factors including my own comfort, happiness, irritability, etc. Was really fun to do and I'm quite keen to do a few more of these.
If weathersa is anything to go by, don't come close to me on between thursday and saturday, it's going to be scorching!

All the work is done by friday

Design Indaba is over! It was hectic, really really busy, but really rad.
Met some cool people, hopefully getting some new projects to work on, ate tasty wraps and just had an all round really really good experience.

I had some pictures developed this morning, the film scans where abit sketchy with some dubious scratches and dust and quite blue but hey?
It was quite cheap so I'm not complaining too much.

A picture from a ride in january on which Lynn invited me along. It's really rad, just a ramshackle bunch of people getting together on the last friday morning of the month to go for a ride around town. No weird leotards and stuff, just people who like riding bikes, road bikes, single speed, fixed or whatever. This happens in cities all around the world on the last friday of every month, it's called Critical Mass and I think you should join in next time
